The 2024 edition of Science for health addressed key topics in AI, data & digitalization and how these tools are revolutionizing healthcare now and for the future. Featured keynote speakers were Jack Scannell (Etheros Pharmaceuticals), Yves Moreau (University of Leuven), and Mieke De Ketelaere (Vlerick Business School).
This year included two breakout tracks:
DRUG DISCOVERY & DEVELOPMENT
AI, data and digitalization can accelerate the development of new therapies, by improving our understanding of disease mechanisms and identify potential drug candidates for clinical trials.
PREVENTION & DIAGNOSTICS
AI, data and digitalization can contribute to personalized and preventive healthcare by enhancing early disease detection and helping to identify individualized risk factors and optimal treatments.
Two panel sessions opened discussions on the state of Belgium regarding the use of health data and AI for research, healthcare and drug discovery.
This edition of Science for health addressed key topics around the theme of “Biology meets technology”, such as:
INNOVATIVE TREATMENT AND PREVENTION PLATFORMS
Innovations of strategic importance will be featured, highlighting how technology has played a role in their discovery and development. New generations of therapeutics and vaccines with great promise for clinical development will be staged.
INNOVATIONS IN BIOPHARMACEUTICAL ENGINEERING
Turning innovative leads into medicines: we will discuss what the factory of the future will look like. How can we effectively implement novel tools such as data analytics, robotics and automation in development of your innovation?
ROADMAP FOR THE FUTURE
There are certain opportunities and challenges Belgium faces, in its way to become a leading region. Which regulatory challenges can we envision and what does the ideal investment climate look like? How can we optimally build talent?
We also discussed which technology needs require solutions. How can we use diagnostic tools to develop biomarkers accompanying innovative treatments and support precision medicine? How are data and AI/ML used to develop better drugs more efficiently?
Science for health 2021 facilitated cross-ecosystem networking between academics, industry leaders, and policymakers. By forming connections across the ecosystem, the event has helped to enable collaborations for Data Science in Belgium and beyond.
The event provided actionable insights to attendees, while acknowledging different
stakeholder needs. Through good media coverage and by fostering cooperation, this edition is accelerating progress in the vital topic of Data Science in health.
Local and international speakers presented engaging talks, featuring examples of big data successfully being used to improve healthcare, as well as earnest discussions about the steps needed to enable real-world data research in the future.
On 11 September 2019, 15 (inter)national top speakers joined us in Brussels and presented on all aspects of cell therapy, from fundamental research breakthroughs to the clinical and regulatory challenges of bringing these innovations to the patient. Dr Carl June, the father of CAR T immunotherapy, opened the conference.
19 cell therapy companies and research institutes presented their work at a (free) booth, resulting in high-quality interaction with the ecosystem.
Reaching a balanced audience of 327 participants, the event was sold out over 1 month in advance
